    Good eggs

    People may visit Kings Cross and Potts Point for the nightlife, but there are plenty of reasons to stick around the morning after ... Breakfast should never be neglected ... Anita Senaratna munches her way through seven of the best brekkas on offer in the local area 

    Having breakfast at Chez Dee feels a little bit like visiting a hippie relative with eccentric taste in furniture, who also happens to be an amazing cook.

    With the shabby-chic bohemian decor and friendly staff, it’s hard not to fall in love with this Kellett Street cafe the second you walk in. 

    Our picks: Smashed avocado with bacon and fetta. Corn fritters with bacon, lime and mascarpone.

    Cafe DOV

    Many Potts Point cafes have come and gone over the years, but Cafe DOV is one place that’s has stood the test of time.

    It's been here for 21 years, and is still going strong. We suggest getting in early on a weekend (it gets packed pretty fast) and securing a spot in the garden/courtyard area out the back. 

    Our picks: Corn fritters with spinach, poached egg, tomato relish and a choice of bacon or smoked salmon (seen here). 

    Fratelli Paradiso

    When you think of breakfast options, Italian isn’t exactly the first cuisine that comes to mind.

    However, if any cafe were to change that, it would be Fratelli Paradiso. With fantastic Italian waiters, a menu that combines the light with the indulgent and amazing coffee, it’s a firm favourite with locals and tourists alike.

    Our picks: Uova foccacia (scrambled eggs on spinach and pumpkin foccacia, below). Any of the pastries.

    Cafe Boheme

    A French-inspired cafe like Cafe Boheme fits in perfectly to Potts Point.

    Despite being a relative newcomer to the area, opening in November 2013, it's attracting some excellent reviews from the likes of Broadsheet, Gourmantic and Good Food.

    Our picks: Croque Madame. Tasha’s Ocean Trout Gravlax.

    Good things come in small packages, and this tiny Llankelly Place cafe is no exception. A word of advice: it's cash only, so make sure you come prepared if you’re one of those people who favours plastic over paper.

    Our picks: Breakfast rice, toastie with boiled egg and hollandaise with a choice of ham or trout (below).

    Bird and Bear

    The only thing better than good food is good food with harbour views, and this Elizabeth Bay cafe has both in abundance.

    Sadly, the kitchen has been closed for the past few months following landlord negotiations (could this be because interests associated with the Obeids have the lease on the Beare Park jetty?).

    According to B & B's Facebook page "this year is going to be a better one".

    We’ve got our fingers crossed! 


    Tucked away under The Crescent on Bayswater Road with no obvious signage, it’s easy to walk straight past and not notice Uliveto.

    Luckily, word is spreading fast and with good reason. There’s a sunny, European vibe to the place, and it’s not hard to imagine you’re somewhere exotic - an illusion occasionally spoiled by the Saturday morning walk-of shamers wandering past.

    Our picks: Walnut toast with avocado, tomato, ricotta and olive tapenade (below). Iced coffee. Welsh rarebit. 


    One of the most important parts of Danish culture is "hygge" (a fun, relaxing atmosphere with friends over food and drink), but you don’t need to go far to experience it.

    Akvavit is a Danish-inspired brunch spot and bar on Crown St in Woolloomooloo serving up Scandinavian favourites like gravlax and rosti.

    Our picks: Akvavit Big Breakfast (bacon, eggs, rosti ,tomato, mushroom, Danish sausage and avocado). Dill & potato rosti topped with smoked salmon and a poached egg (below).
